The hands down best part of this place is the outdoor sitting area. It is the breezeway next to City Plaza II and a wall. there is a running man-made stream and palm trees outside- when it is not too hot this place is perfect for lunch outdoors. That said- lets get to the food! GOOD!: my current favourite is the sweet and spicy shrimp salad. It comes with pineapple wonderfulness. I have never had a bad meal here- the daily specials are nice, so are the wraps and Panini's. Coffee is hot and they will send you off with a to-go cup :) Less good: don't have one. - oh wait- I know they have a bar- but since I usually frequent this place for lunch- I never get to partake- so bad on me- not them. Bottom line: get the shrimp salad- it will change your life- if you don't like it- I will take it off of your hands for free :)

I finally tried Zolia today. Love the vibe inside. Meal was really very good. We tried the tomato basil soup, which came with crusty toast to crumble inside. It was quite tasty. Next up, the Neapolitan panini with a side of potato salad and the salmon sliders with a side of crunch Asian slaw. Both arrived beautifully plated and cooked to order. The Neapolitan was served on crispy panini bread and was glazed with the perfect amount of a balsamic glaze, Salmon sliders came on toasted brioche with a topping that looked like pico but did not taste like it. I'm not sure what the sauce was but it was good. They seem to be revamping the wine list and our server was very limited in what they had but was willing to check to find a Chardonnay that my friend requested. I look forward to going again soon as there were several other appealing items on the menu.

We went for lunch and it was delish! They gave us free desserts because one of our group showed up ten minutes later than us and his food didn't come out with ours.

I've been here a couple of times and I've enjoyed it immensely both times. This place is a hidden gem in the middle of downtown BR. Great wine/drink list with reasonable prices and delicious appetizers like the cannellini hummus are good enough to turn me into a regular...then I find out, they've added jazz brunch. OH SNAP. The Jazz Brunch is super casual and really fun - they had a jazz trio playing old New Orleans jams and give you a choice of the European brunch buffet or brunch menu items. After briefly perusing the menu and staring down the buffet, we went with the buffet and were not disappointed. Grits, biscuits, scrambled eggs, bacon, gorgeous fresh fruit, TO DIE FOR almond croissants, caesar salad, and a phenomenal salmon salad were some of the notable items offered for $19. Its brunch bliss at a bargain price. THEN they have about 6 champagne cocktails and a bacon bloody mary - all under $10. Needless to say, I'll be returning as soon as I get the chance.

Hidden Gem!! We loved it. Great happy hour. The only thing we disliked that there weren't more patrons!! It seemed like there would be a lot of people here. The food was creative and full flavored. The staff was overly awesome. Great selection of drinks and beers! It is kind of hard to find but take the time to figure it out. It is very much worth it!!

Zolia's Bistro, located in the II City Plaza in downtown Baton Rouge, is a great little spot for a quick lunch. The service was quick, the menu is varied enough to accomodate most palates, and the prices are decent ($8-$12 for a lunch entree). I've only been during lunch. There was a keyboardist and guitarist playing covers at a moderate decibal which added to the upbeat (but not overly lively) atmosphere. I'll definitely be back.

Finally had a chance to try Zoila, after finding them closed on a Monday night last time in Baton Rouge. Glad I gave them another chance! Great selection of tapas & pretty decent wine list, combined with great service and chill atmosphere. Our favorites were the Abita shrimp, tuna tar tar & mushroom crostini. Not many choices in downtown BR, but this is one worth visiting! Just don't do it on a Monday night.

I visited Baton Rouge for a girl weekend. We wanted to try food that was not typical and well prepared. I must say we found everything we wanted and more when we chose to eat at Zolia. We went for dinner on a friday night. It was not too crowded and we were greated very quickly. There was live music which made the atmosphere really laid back. Our waiter Tony was awesome!! He was able to answer all of our questions and help us to make great selections. We had the tin roof shrimp and grits which was so delicious. We all enjoyed the boards where you pick your meats, cheese and condiments. The honey goat cheese was so good. The highlight of the night was the lemon blueberry bread pudding! It was hands down the best bread pudding Ive ever had. My friends had chocolate martinis for their dessert and I must say it did not disappoint. If you are looking to venture out and try something different this is certainly the place to do it. you will not be disappointed.

This review is based solely on my lunch experiences at Zolia Bistro since I have not yet had the pleasure of trying the evening menu (complete with tapas). Yearning for a quick bite in a setting that doesn't scream fast food? Then Zolia is the place for you! It's located in the first floor of City Plaza with pretty courtyard views filled with palm trees and a fountain of sorts that's relaxing. If weather permits, you should definitely take advantage of their patio seating. The ambience is trendy yet casual enough for you to feel that you don't need to be decked out in red bottoms to enjoy the experience :) For lunch, their menu boasts a pretty good selection of paninis, burgers, wraps, and salads. On average, each dish is around $7-12 each. The Big Easy and the St. Andre paninis are a delight. The Big Easy has spicy capicola ham, pepperoni, genoa salami, provolone and asiago cheeses, as well as olive salad. The flavors of all the meats mesh together perfectly to send your palate on a tasty adventure. The St. Andre Panini boasts roasted and moist turkey with triple cream brie, arugula, red onion with a house cranberry mayo spread. My mouth waters just thinking how good this is! You do get a choice with all entrees of homemade veggie chips (a colorful medley of beets, carrots, and zucchini), pasta salad, or fresh fruit salad. All portions are rather generous. Before you leave, make sure you also try the blueberry bread pudding. The lemon rum sauce and white chocolate work so well together you'll think you've died and gone to heaven.

Zolia is easily one of my favorite places to pick up or dine in for lunch. The staff is friendly and efficient, and the food is consistently delicious. They recently expanded their menu, which gives downtown workers like me even more options. Their tomato basil soup is amazing-- I wish they served it all the time! The only reason why I am giving this 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the prices on the salads. While the paninis are all pretty fairly priced and come with a side, the prices on salads (what I order 99% of the time) are a little ridiculous. $9 for a plain (no meat) Sensation salad seems a bit much since all it is just a bowl of lettuce, some almond slices and dressing. However, it is a bit more understandable on the Zolia salad (highly recommended!) since that has bacon, roasted tomatoes and other toppings. If you are looking for a good lunch place downtown, definitely give them a try!

I'm surprised to see there isn't a review of this place yet. It's a hit with the downtown crowd during lunch. But my boyfriend and I went one evening after work to check it out. It's inside of City Plaza II so if you are unfamiliar with the area you might have difficulty finding it. But that shouldn't deter you! I truly enjoyed the food here and was pleasantly surprised. We tried various tapas, Tuna Tartare, Abita Shrimp, Salmon Basilica and the Warm Truffled Crimini Crostini, to name a few. They were all delicious. My boyfriend normally doesn't like raw sashimi but he loved this tapa. It was fresh and packed with flavor. The texture and consistency was just right. I really loved the Abita Shrimp served over a chive grit cake. I like to call it the "Cajun Tapa". It's really delicious and something different to try. I also enjoyed the Salmon with the tomato caper relish. It was cooked just right. And the Roasted Garlic and Goat Cheese on the mushroom crostini really complemented it well. The flavors were just right. If you haven't gone yet, then please go. I can't wait to go back and try more of their delicious tapas and antipasto boards.

Well look at this-Baton Rouge increasing its tapas restaurants. I would be fairly surprised if this place doesn't become very popular because of its quality and pleasing ambiance. I've only been here for dinner so my experience is confined to that. For the lack of a better description, I love the feel of this place. It's just nice enough to be a touch upscale without being pretentious. The prices are decent. I wouldn't call it cheap dining but the food really delivers flavor wise, and I'm factoring in the decor. I would say $5-10 for one tapas plate. The food has a decent range from seafood, red meat, vegetarian, and a selection of cheese plates. The last time I ordered two tapas and then shared a large cheese plate with another person. My petite burger was excellent, and the honey goat cheese is legit out of this world. I don't even like goat cheese usually but man, bottle that stuff up. The service was fast and very accommodating to our questions about the menu. If you are in the downtown area, check it out for something a bit different.

Just picked up lunch there for the first time. The girl up front was very nice and answered my questions. I was excited for my sensation salad with grilled chicken added. I also got a mango peach iced tea. My total was $11.17. When I saw the salad - I was quite worried as I just spent $9 for this salad and it came out in this little clamshell box. Way too small for $9! I really don't need to eat more than that but I don't want to pay $9 either. I will say that the tea is great and the sensation dressing is the best ever! Great food they just are overpriced! I will try them again but I will have to save up first!

Went for Sunday brunch after staying in Baton Rouge after an LSU football game. My wife and I live in New Orleans and are spoiled regarding food. This place could live in Nawlins. Great food, great ambiance, great service. Plus a jazz trio which we missed to get back to NOLA to watch the Saints. Someone wrote a negative review somewhere but they must have been at another restaurant and got confused.

I've been trying to be conservative with my stars, but I couldn't hold back for Zolia. I tried the Saint Andre' panini (with roasted turkey breast, triple cream brie, arugula, red onion, & cranberry mayo) and the Blueberry Bread Pudding (with white chocolate, fresh blueberries, & lemon rum sauce) and was on a cloud! They were sadly out of the Tiramisu since the weekend, but the bread pudding more than quenched my thirst for delicious sweets ;) The panini was crunchy on the outside with warm and melting amazingness on the inside. Definitely returning here and perhaps making a plan to become a regular! Oh and the customer service was satisfactory. I only go to go, and the cashier was nice but not too great with communication. The ambience seemed fantastic though so eating there (regularly) either inside or on their decent sized outdoor patio is definitely in my future! Cannot wait to return and try another delicious menu option!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
